Ghostly Secrets and Close Encounters

Jodi Picoult: Second Glance

Fiction - Mystery

Published by Hodder and Stoughton 2008

Second Glance is a tale encased in paranormal activity, spirits and secrets. Picoult holds us in suspense with her erratic style and occasional use of cliff-hangers. It begins by inviting us into the lives of the people of Comtosook, Vermont, who each have tales to tell of ghosts and the other world. As the divide between the many characters grows ever closer, we are drawn to the one catastrophic event which ties them altogether, that being the unusual death of an eighteen year old woman seventy years ago. The mystery behind Cecelia Pike is depicted in part two where she narrates her life to us.

What starts off as a ghost hunt to prove paranormal existence, becomes a journey to discovering the truth, in order to allow Cecelia to finally rest in peace.
